About the Event

In the 2024 elections, more women than ever before were elected to the Legislature. But women's pursuit of influence in California politics and public policy has been a long and difficult journey -- marked by discrimination and entrenched stereotypes. From the Gold Rush to present day,  "Paving the Way" brings to life the remarkable and inspiring stories of trailblazing women -- mostly lost to history -- who overcame tremendous obstacles to leave their mark on California history. 


Speakers' Biographies


Steve Swatt is a veteran political analyst with a long career in journalism and public affairs. He is a former award-winning political reporter with 25 years experience with the San Francisco Examiner, United Press International and KCRA-TV. He has taught political communication at CSU Sacramento and is the author or coauthor of several books on California political history.
